How the calculation works
First we add the three daily costs (lodging + food + local transport) and multiply by the number of days. Then we add the flight and extras (already total values, not daily) to get the total per person. Finally, we multiply by the number of people for the group total.
Tips for estimating each cost
Lodging: research the average nightly rate at your destination and dates. Food: account for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Local transport: include taxis/rideshare, public transit or car rental. Extras: set aside a margin for shopping, paid tours, travel insurance and unexpected costs — a good rule of thumb is reserving 10-20% of the total budget as a contingency.
