Weekday-rule vs. fixed-date holidays
Six federal holidays are defined by a weekday rule (e.g. Thanksgiving is always the fourth Thursday of November, Memorial Day is always the last Monday of May), so they always land on a weekday. The other five (New Year's Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Veterans Day, Christmas) are fixed calendar dates and shift to the nearest weekday when they fall on a Saturday or Sunday, following the federal OPM observance rule.

Frequently asked questions
Does this work for any year?
Yes — it works for any year between 1900 and 2200, applying the correct weekday rules and weekend-observance shifts for that year.
Why does New Year's Day sometimes show a date in the previous year?
When January 1st falls on a Saturday, federal employees observe the holiday the preceding Friday (December 31st of the prior year), following the official OPM weekend-observance rule.
Does it include state holidays?
No — it only shows the 11 federal holidays recognized nationwide. State and local government holidays vary and aren't included.
