What is pace
Pace is the time it takes to cover 1 km, expressed in minutes and seconds per kilometer (min/km) — it's the most common way to measure running rhythm, as opposed to speed in km/h, which is more common in cycling.
How to calculate it
pace (sec/km) = total time (seconds) ÷ distance (km). For example, running 5 km in 25 minutes gives a pace of 5:00 min/km.
Estimated time at other distances
Assuming you keep the same pace, the calculator projects the time you'd run 5K, 10K, half marathon (21.1 km) and marathon (42.2 km) in — useful for planning race goals, though in practice sustainable pace tends to drop a little as distance increases.
Frequently asked questions
Are pace and speed the same thing?
No — pace is time per km (min/km) and speed is distance per time (km/h). They're inversely related: a 6:00 min/km pace equals 10 km/h.
Is the estimated time at other distances accurate?
It's a linear estimate (same pace maintained). In practice, most runners run slightly slower at longer distances, so use it as a reference, not a guarantee.
