GPA / Weighted Average (CR/IRA) Calculator

Add up courses, grades and credits to see your weighted academic average.

What is CR / IRA

The academic performance coefficient (called CR or IRA at Brazilian universities, similar to a weighted GPA) is the student's average grade weighted by each course's credit hours. It's used for scholarships, exchange programs, honors and academic ranking.

How to calculate it

CR = Σ(grade × credits) ÷ Σ(credits). Courses with more credit hours (usually more class hours) weigh more in the calculation.

How to use it

Enter one course per line, formatted as name:grade:credits. Example: Calculus I:8.5:4 means a grade of 8.5 in a 4-credit course.

Differences between universities

Each university may have its own official CR/IRA formula (some use credits, others class hours, others handle failed courses differently) — check your institution's official rules for the exact calculation.

Frequently asked questions

Are CR and IRA the same thing?

In practice, yes — different names (used by different universities) for the same type of credit-weighted academic average.

What counts as a course's "credits"?

Usually a number proportional to the course's class hours, defined by the program's curriculum.

Does this calculator match my university's official CR?

It's an approximation — each institution may have specific rules (like how failed or repeated courses are handled), so always confirm with your school.

Do failed courses count toward the calculation?

In this calculator, yes, if you include the failed course's grade in the list — some universities have different rules for this.
