How the calculation works
The tool walks through every day between the start and end date (inclusive of both ends) and counts how many fall Monday through Friday, ignoring Saturdays and Sundays.
About holidays
This calculation does not subtract national, state or local holidays — only weekends. This is intentional: holidays vary widely by country, state and city, and the site doesn't maintain a built-in holiday calendar. If your calculation needs to account for specific holidays, manually subtract the number of holidays that fall on weekdays within the period.
Example
Between a Monday and the Friday of the same week, there are 5 business days. If the period includes a weekend in the middle, those 2 days don't count toward business days, but they do count toward the total calendar days.
Frequently asked questions
Does the calculation subtract national holidays?
No. For simplicity, and because holidays vary by region, this calculator only treats Saturdays and Sundays as non-business days — holidays need to be subtracted manually if needed.
Do the start and end dates count as business days?
Yes, if they fall on a weekday (Monday through Friday), both entered dates are included in the count.
Can I enter the end date before the start date?
Yes, the calculator automatically figures out which date is earlier and which is later, calculating the range correctly regardless of the order entered.
Can I use this for legal/procedural deadlines?
