What it's for
This tool counts your text's characters in real time and shows, for each social platform or purpose, whether it fits within the current limit — useful for writing posts, captions, bios and descriptions without getting cut off mid-content.
Limits used (researched and confirmed as of October 2026)
- X (Twitter) post: 280 characters for standard accounts (Premium/verified accounts have higher limits, up to 25,000 characters, not covered here).
- Instagram caption: 2,200 characters (only the first ~125 show before "...more").
- Instagram bio: 150 characters.
- Facebook post: 63,206 characters.
- LinkedIn post: 3,000 characters (only ~140-210 show before "see more", depending on device).
- YouTube title: 100 characters (only the first ~60 show in search results).
- TikTok caption: 2,200 characters.
- Google meta description: there is no fixed technical limit — we use 160 characters as a common practical benchmark, since the actual cutoff varies by device and search result format.
Keeping this current
These limits are set by the platforms themselves and can change without notice — whenever it matters, confirm the current limit directly on the platform before publishing something critical.
Frequently asked questions
Do these limits apply to Premium/verified accounts?
Not necessarily. For example, X Premium accounts can post up to 25,000 characters, far beyond the 280-character limit for standard accounts used here. The limits shown are the standard ones for regular accounts.
Why isn't the meta description limit a fixed number?
Because Google truncates the search snippet based on screen width and result layout, not an exact character count. The 160-character value is a widely used practical benchmark, not an official Google rule.
Does the tool count emojis and spaces?
Yes, the count includes every typed character, including spaces, emojis and punctuation, the same way most platforms count.
Is my text sent to any server?
No, all counting happens locally in your browser.
